THE COACH

When a successful gymnastics coach from Tulsa retires early and moves to a small town in the lake country of northeast Oklahoma, he’s surprised by what he finds there. Mike Corrigan had planned a semi-retired life at the lake, but those plans and his life will be changed forever by the people of Prairie Falls. A story about an old passion lost running head-on into a young passion on the threshold of greatness. This accident, a chance meeting at the local bakery, is the catalyst for the formation of friendships and relationships among the many characters of “The Falls” and its newest citizen. In this, the first book in THE COACH series, you’ll meet Kathy and Ann, two elderly ladies, the busy-body ambassadors of the town, John McIntosh, a reverend from the local church, sisters Ruth and Gloria, the first who owns the bakery and the second who owns the diner and Sally, the Pollyanna of Prairie Falls, whose love of gymnastics not accidently collides with the retired coach over coffee and a cinnamon roll at the Best of the Morning Bakery. With unbridled energy, Sally was pursuing what many believed was an impossible dream, until the day she read the sleeve of Mike’s t-shirt.

THE FIRST SEASON

The Coach Series follows the adventures of Sally Jackson and her friends. Sally, a passionate gymnastics enthusiast, lives in the small town of Prairie Falls, Oklahoma, where gymnastics training was difficult and gymnastics coaches didn’t exist, until the day she saw Mike Corrigan at the local bakery. Prairie Falls has an abundance of characters, role models for the good life. In this, the second book in the series, you will be reacquainted with Ann, Kathy, Ruth, Gloria and John (The Rev). You will meet four year old Jayden and her mother Jana, get to know Vanessa and Shannon and spend some time with three of Mike’s former gymnasts, Karen, Connie and Susan, National Champions from Tulsa. Lives are changed as these characters cross paths during the course of the team’s first season. Lessons taught by Mike years earlier in Tulsa find their way to The Falls, influencing Sally and the team. And, the girls handle their first encounter with an over-zealous, win-at-all-cost coach. The Coach Series is written by Mark Folger. Mark began coaching gymnastics in 1977. He was the 2009 USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic National Coach of the Year. He began writing fiction as a hobby and was encouraged to publish his writings by several of his gymnasts.

MARK FOLGER

Mark Folger began coaching gymnastics in 1977. He attended both undergraduate school and graduate school at the University of Oklahoma, studying sports science, primarily motivation in youth sports. Mark was a state champion gymnast in Kansas, was an All Big-8 gymnast and NCAA medalist while in college.
In 1986 Mark and his wife Penny opened Folger's Gymnastics in Wichita, Kansas. The gymnasts at Folger's Gymnastics earned four USA Gymnastics level 10 National Championships, placed girls on the JO National Team twice and the TOP National Team twice. Folger's Gymnasts went on to win NCAA National Titles in division one and division three as well as conference titles in the SEC, Big-12 and MIC.
In 2009, Mark was chosen as the USA Gymnastics National Junior Olympic Coach of the Year. He is currently a member of the USA Gymnastics National Committee that develops the Junior Olympic rules and curriculum.
In November of 2014 Mark and Penny sold their gym to two of their long time employees. Mark continues to coach, host the Folger's New Year Invitational (since 1995) and teach classes in motivation and coaching principles at Wichita State University.
